Origins go back to 1893, as farmland north of the original Phoenix town site. Large lots sold from $450 to $500. The first line built by The Phoenix Railway Co. in 1900 used property owner subsidies to run streetcars from downtown up 1st Street, over to 3rd Street and north to the Phoenix Indian School.
